Child sexual exploitation: A difficult subject but another successful landlord forum

Last week we held our latest landlord forum at Oldbury Council House. There were presentations from the Home Office on the ‘Right to Rent rules,’ the council’s Anti Social Behaviour team and from the Police on Child Sexual Exploitation, (CSE).

Even when you recognise its importance, this is an extremely difficult subject to discuss and you might wonder quite what the connection is to a landlord event.

However, in an excellent presentation, Detective Inspector Mick Spellman from West Midlands Police set out how many of the venues for this sort of crime are likely to be privately rented flats and houses and how landlords can sometimes be in a position to notice that something is amiss, if they know what to look for.

You don’t need me to tell you how important an issue this is. So if you can spare a few minutes, do please have a look at DI Spellman’s Powerpoint presentation on CSE.
