Most landlords have a check list of actions to do when signing up and moving in a new tenant.
If you haven’t already, please make sure you put Council Tax on that list. It is up to the tenant to inform us themselves that they have moved in to a new home and to get registered for the tax, but it always helps if the landlord tells us as well.
A proportion of tenants will simply forget to register – so our Council Tax team would rather be told twice, than not at all.
If the right details aren’t provided at the right time – landlords can end up with all sorts of hassle dealing with extra administration to sort things out. So please – if you have a new tenant, just go to our website and let us know. And don’t forget to let us know too when someone moves out.
